Colin Ross joined LDN in 1973 after two years with Robert Matthew Johnston Marshall and Partners. He formed The Law and Dunbar-Nasmith Partnership in 1981 with Graham Law, James Dunbar-Nasmith, Andrew Wright and Maurice Batten. During his early years with the practice he developed skills in energy conscious design and was seconded to the Scottish Development Department to work on design guidance for education buildings. He is responsible for the financial management of the practice and has developed internal management systems for financial control and project costing.
For 3 years, he was a part-time lecturer in design at Edinburgh University. He lectures on practice management (RIBA Part III) at Edinburgh University, Heriot-Watt University, and Scott Sutherland School of Architecture (Robert Gordon University), Aberdeen. He sat on the Scottish Arts Council Lottery Committee as the only architect member for the first 3 years of the establishment of the Lottery.


He has an acknowledged record of successful architectural work including:
Loretto School Theatre - RIBA Commendation
The Maltings Arts Centre, Berwick - RIBA Regional Award
Culloden Visitors Centre - British Tourism Authority Award
Fort George Rehabilitation - 1986 Europa Nostra Silver Medal, APRS Special Award
Edinburgh Festival Theatre - Regeneration of Scotland Award, High Commendation, EAA Silver Medal, RIBA Regional Award, USITT Honour Award, Civic Trust Award
Birmingham Hippodrome - RIBA Award
He has worked on the phased development of Dollar Academy and with Lothian Regional Council on their programme of school upgrading.


Competition winning work includes:
The House for the Principal of St Andrew’s University Dollar Academy Strategic Study and Phases 1 and 2 (now complete). He was Partner in charge of the Parliament House Redevelopment Project for Scottish Court Service, the Usher Hall Redevelopment and the Gateway Theatre Arts Project for Queen Margaret University College.
