Peter McIlhenny
Peter McIlhenny Dip Arch
Partner

After graduating from the Mackintosh School of Architecture, Peter worked in Aberdeen with GRM Kennedy and Partners before moving to London to work for Price and Cullen for whom he took charge of Swedish Quays, one of the most prestigious housing projects in the docklands. He then worked for Michael Squire Associates with whom he was responsible for new offices at 63 St James Street in London and the entrance building for Tower Bridge Museum. He moved back to Scotland in 1994 to set up Vaughan and McIlhenny Architects and put his interest in the rejuvenation of neglected building stock to practical use with projects realised around the Highlands. This was given recognition through inclusion in New Architects: a guide to Britain’s best young architectural practices published by the Architecture Foundation.
Peter joined LDN in 1998 as a senior architect and became a partner at the start of 2010. He has taken lead roles in many of our larger projects including Peterhead Sheriff Court, Moray College Learning Resource Centre and Helmsdale Community Centre. Recent work includes masterplanning for Moray College and Inverness Harbour and a broad spectrum of domestic and award-winning community based projects.
Peter has enjoyed success in open architectural competitions, making it to the last six for the Museum of Scotland in Chambers Street, Edinburgh, with Michael Squire, and equal first place in the Inverewe Gardens’ Restaurant Competition. He has also tutored at the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture in Aberdeen and Nottingham University and is a published cartoonist and compiler of crosswords.
