Abbotsford

Client: The Abbotsford Trust

The A Listed Abbotsford, in the heart of the Scottish Borders, is the creation of Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832), Scotland’s greatest writer and arguably the most influential Scot who has ever lived. Including a beautiful setting; a unique antiquarian designed landscape; architecture of the highest quality; rare and unique collections of intrinsic antiquarian interest; Scott’s own huge library; and the personality of Scott all pervasive, it is one of Scotland’s great cultural sites.

LDN Architects led a team of conservation specialists, including archaeologists, collections conservators, landscape historians and literary experts who analysed all aspects of its significance. A Statement of Significance & Conservation Policies were prepared and used to guide proposals for Abbotsford’s conservation and development, also prepared by LDN.
