LDN completed a Campus Masterplan for George Heriot’s School in 2006, and were subsequently selected to implement the first phase, the construction of a new sports centre. on the recently purchased adjacent Grassmarket site. It will provide a large sports hall, dance studio, fitness suite, changing rooms, classroom and, alongside the existing buildings, will help to define a new courtyard for this part of the school. The project uses a bespoke structural timber frame, vertical zinc cladding, sedum roofing and large glazed elements to create a bold new intervention, sensitive to its location in Edinburgh’s Old Town.
