Carl Maria von Weber Theatre

Client: Stadt Bernburg

Built in the 1820s by the chief architect of the Duchy of Anhalt-Bernburg, J A P Bunge, to a design by Karl-Friedrich Schinkel, the Carl Maria von Weber Theatre in Bernburg is one of the few perfectly preserved theatres in Anhalt, Germany.

The building was neglected for many years before Hilger LDN was asked to oversee its refurbishment. Comprehensive renovation and renewal was necessary, involving the restoration of the 350 seat auditorium, major changes to the front of house areas to provide contemporary foyer space, the integration of new theatre and services equipment, and the restoration of the roof and facades.
