Bona Lighthouse Conversion

Client: Scottish Canals

Bona Lighthouse on the Caledonian Canal is a small but significant element of what is generally considered to be Thomas Telford’s engineering masterpiece. One of only two inland lighthouses in the whole country, its purpose was to safely guide boats through the narrows which link Loch Ness with Loch Dochfour.

The building had lain empty for many years when Scottish Canals asked LDN to restore and convert it for use as short-term holiday lets. Two units have been created, one in the two-storey lighthouse itself and another in what was formerly the stable. Each is intimately proportioned, simply detailed and enjoys splendid views.
