Edinburgh University Architecture Studios

Client: Edinburgh University

Conversion of Category B Listed Examination Halls in Adam House to new Architecture Studios for Edinburgh University’s School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. The work included the careful conservation of original architectural features, the conversion of an existing theatre as a lecture space, and the creation of four floors of flexible studio space incorporating movable storage and display units which are also used to delineate teaching spaces. The studios have also been designed to function as performance spaces during the annual Edinburgh International Arts Festival.

LDN also worked with Professor Fiona McLachlan to develop a new colour scheme for the building which was sympathetic to the 1950s origins of the building and also helps make the building legible to building users.
