Eilean Aigas

Client: Private

LDN have completed a number of projects on the Eilean Aigas Estate in the Highlands, west of Inverness. The work included the design of a major new country house on Eilean Aigas itself, the renovation of a Listed hunting lodge and the construction of a new Factor’s house and Estate Office.

Sited on the edge of a cliff over the Beauly River, the new house is one of the grandest country houses to be built in Scotland in recent years. Its design responds to its spectacular site and is traditional in character and built of local Clashach sandstone. Its sumptuous interiors were designed by LDN and constructed by the best craftspeople in Scotland. The house includes all the comforts and services expected as part of modern day living, including a media room, and state of the art IT installations.

The B Listed Eilean Aigas lodge stands nearby on the island and was renovated to provide additional guest accommodation. It was built for the Sobieski Stewart brothers, reputed grandsons of Bonnie Prince Charlie, and was where they wrote their works on the Tartanry of the Clans. The kitsch romanticisation of Scotland’s history could be said to have started there.

LDN was also responsible for the design and construction of the new gatelodge and estate office at the entrance to the estate.
