Liverpool Museum

Client: Trustees of Liverpool Museum

LDN was appointed to devise and implement a strategy of conservation and renewal of the Liverpool Museum to meet 21st century expectations. Radical re-appraisal and simplification of circulation pattern saw the entrance being re-located and an external courtyard enclosed with a glass roof to provide a dramatic orientation space.

This major cultural project includes the incorporation of new galleries, a theatre, and collection storage areas around a 6 storey atrium. This involved the insertion of contemporary architecture within the fabric of a Grade II listed building and also included the conservation of stonework, roofs and internal plasterwork and tiles.

Externally, a new civic space creates an enhanced sense of arrival and announces the emergence of an invigorated institution.
