The Schueco Excellence Awards for Design and Innovation, in partnership with Architecture Today, were being announced yesterday at a special event at the Saatchi Gallery in London. Our recently completed project, Appleton Tower, for the University of Edinburgh, was on the shortlist so project partner Dermot Patterson and project architect Ross Crichton took a trip south for the occasion. Last night we were in Glasgow for the 2018 RIAS Awards event. Three of our projects were shortlisted: McEwan Hall was shortlisted for the main awards while The Patrick Geddes Centre and Portsoy Sail Loft were shortlisted for the RIAS/HES Conservation and Climate Change Award. (read more...)
LDN attended the RIBA Yorkshire Awards ceremony last night in Leeds to represent our shortlisted project, the Piece Hall and Calderdale Central Library & Archives. We had high hopes that the project, which has transformed and rejuvenated the centre of Halifax, would come away with an award but expectations were exceeded when it was presented with not one but four! At the RICS Yorkshire & Humber Awards ceremony on Friday 11th May, the Piece Hall and Calderdale Central Library & Archives project was awarded the prize for Regeneration. The project was celebrated for restoring the 18th Century Cloth Hall to create "a vibrant new cultural and commercial centre that is attracting significant public and private sector funding and new businesses... The winners of the Historic England Heritage Angel Awards were announced last night at a ceremony in London. We were delighted to see Claire Slattery from Calderdale Council win Best Rescue of a Historic Building for the Piece Hall in Halifax. The Speirs Centre in Alloa has earned itself a collection of awards since its completion. It has recently been announced as winner of both the RIAS/Historic Scotland Award for Conservation and Climate Change and an EAA Ambassador Award. Abbotsford, the world-famous house and gardens in the heart of the Scottish Borders, has been awarded the much sought-after European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Award for its recent conservation project. The conservation and development work was all based on a Conservation Plan for the House prepared by a team of experts led by LDN. (read more...)
LDN Architects received an RIAS Award for The Beacon Arts Centre, Greenock at last week’s award ceremony and has been shortlisted for the Doolan Prize. They also received a Highly Commended for The Assembly Rooms, Edinburgh and The Abbotsford Visitor Reception Building. In addition to this Abbotsford won the Forestry Commission Special Prize and the Best Use of Wood Award. (read more...)
